How to Change Your FireFox Location Bar Search Engine
If your mom, grandma, or even yourself has been hijacked by some program that’s decided to install its own toolbar and also change you location bar’s search engine, don’t fret, it’s easy to fix. First uninstall the Yahoo! or Bing tool bars if that doesn’t completely do the trick, now it’s time to do a little tweaking in Firefox:
- Type about:config in Firefox location bar and press Enter
- Type keyword in Filter textbox and you will see only the preference keyword.URL.
- Double-click on keyword.URL and change the value to: http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&q=
That should restore FireFox’s default location bar search to Google’s Feeling Lucky search. These same steps can be used to change the default location bar search to any search engine of your choice, given that you really do use another search engine.
